Record-Breaking ICCA Congress stimulates international meetings industry in Dubai

The 2018 edition of International Congress and Convention Association's (ICCA) annual flagship event has achieved record attendance figures for any ICCA Congress held outside of Europe: a total of 1,156 industry experts from 79 countries have travelled to Dubai for the meeting. Organised with the support of key local partners including Dubai World Trade Centre, Congress Solutions International, Emirates and Dubai Business Events, the city’s official convention bureau, the Congress brings together senior meetings industry professionals to exchange knowledge and ideas about the latest trends in international association meetings and business events.


Visit Scotland wins ICCA Best Marketing Award

ICCA have announced VisitScotland Business Events as the winner of this year’s prestigious ICCA Best Marketing Award at the closing ceremony of the 57th ICCA Congress in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The other finalists of the ICCA Best Marketing Award 2018 were The Hague Convention Bureau with, Cyber Security Week 2017 and the Serbian Convention Bureau with Apimondia 2021.


Meetings Mean Business Canada Presentation

Grant Snider, past Chair of Meetings Mean Business Canada, co-presented with current Chair, Heidi Welker of Freeman AV Canada and Chantal Sturk-Nadeau, Executive Director of Business Events Canada, about how Canada developed an effective, cross-country advocacy coalition inspired by the Meetings Mean Business coalition in the United States. They highlighted that meetings and events represent over USD 1.5 trillion in contribution to GDP globally and employ millions in well-paying jobs in addition to all of the other positive social, intellectual and knowledge transfer impacts that take place in communities where events take place.


Winners of Incredible Impacts 2018 grants announced

The Incredible Impacts Programme, now in its second year, run collaboratively by ICCA and BestCities Global Alliance, has selected three winning associations as leading examples of excellence within the global meetings industry.

With 12 inspiring entries, an independent panel of industry experts selected the winners of this year’s Incredible Impacts grant as:

  • Down Syndrome International

  • Society for Ecological Restoration

  • Union for International Cancer Control

The three associations from across the globe will each receive a US $7,500 grant towards future projects, in recognition of their hosted events excelling in areas such as legacy development, sustainability and accessibility.

Incredible Impact funds are held in trust and released directly to grant recipients by Meeting Escrow Inc., an independent provider of secure payment and escrow solutions for the meetings industry worldwide.
