As reported in M&C Asia, July 2, 2021, Switzerland has jumped ahead of schedule to allow large events of up to 10,000 people on the condition that attendees have valid proof of vaccination or negative Covid test results, according to a Reuters report.
The decision, originally expected to take effect in August, came as the number of new infections in the country showed signs of decline. Around the time of the announcement on 23 June, the country recorded 154 new cases.
Speaking at a news conference held in Bern, Swiss Health Minister had advised caution, stressing that it is important to find a balance instead of growing overconfident, the Reuters report added.
In Switzerland, it is no longer mandatory for people to wear masks outdoors. Restaurant and entertainment establishments have also been permitted to re-open without mask requirements for patrons who can produce Covid certificates.
